John Francis McCormack was an Irish tenor who lived from 1884-1945, well known for his operatic performances as well as his renditions of popular song. He became acquainted with James Joyce in 1904, before either became famous, giving him voice lessons and helping him to earn 3^rd place in Dublin's Feis Ceoil, which McCormack himself had won the previous year. He went on to study in Italy, receiving voice training from Vincenzo Sabatini and became Covent Garden's youngest principal tenor. Eventually, he became the most celebrated lyric tenor of his time.
